PHL Airport Center Receives Coast Guard Recognition
The USO PHL Airport Center is the muster point for USCG recruits going to training camp in Cape May, New Jersey. Since about 1990, over 110,000 newly enlisted recruits have deplaned at the airport and mustered at our center.
Over the years, USO volunteers ensured that each and every service member received exceptional care as they embarked on what could be the most difficult and stressful eight weeks of their lives. Volunteers prepared and served home cooked meals such as pork loin, spaghetti and meatballs, turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables and snacks week after week, year after year to new recruits on what has been labeled “Coast Guard Tuesdays” and “DEPOT Sundays”. During COVID-19, staff and volunteers resiliently man the center to ensure that Coast Guard recruits can still pass through our doors on their way to Cape May.
Recently, Chief Petty Officer Kuntzmann presented a unit citation to the PHL Airport Center for a job well done. The Coast Guard’s motto is Semper Paratus which means always ready or prepared. Bravo Zulu is the Coast Guard term for well done or great job. Semper Paratus and Bravo Zulu to the PHL Airport volunteers
